Joint Ecosystem Modeling

Wader Distribution Evaluation Modeling (WADEM)

Wading birds respond to changing habitat conditions and are indicators of ecosystem health in the Everglades. Wader Distribution Evaluation Modeling (WADEM) was developed to predict how great egret (Ardea alba), white ibis (Eudocimus albus) and wood stork (Mycteria americana) distributions respond to prey resources linked to hydrologic variables. The model uses hydrologic inputs from the Everglades Depth Estimation Network (EDEN) to predict species-specific habitat suitability across the Greater Everglades landscape.
